Eleanor H. Porter, Pollyanna.
I have not yet met a person who has not cried, when he has finished reading the book Eleanor H. Porter, Pollyanna.
Pollyanna, was written for children, but is can be also useful for adults. In the book, the author tells story about one child, eleven years old, named Pollyanna. Which after his father’s death, forced to move to live with his Aunt Polly.
Aunt Polly was not happy to see his niece. She was pedantic, strict and adopts Pollyanna just because of a sense of duty. But the little girl accept Aunt Polly with gratitude and admiration.
Pollyanna is an optimistic girl which love life and everyone.
The secret of Pollyanna was “The Glad Game”, that her father taught to play. The meaning of the game is to find at each event, something optimistic.
Pollyanna taught to play on this game everyone whom she met. At the beginning, especially adults listened with a skeptical, about game. But after they tried to play and realozed that the game actually helps to look at the problem from a different angle. And now life does not seem so bad and sad.
We adults, very quickly lose mentality of the children and the ability to enjoy the little things. That is why we can learn a lot of from Pollyanna. Be sure to read that book to children, they will like.
On motives of the book filmed several movies with the same name. And Eleanor H. Porter written a sequel named “Pollyanna Grows Up”. So, if you liked the first part, read also the second part.
