International Women’s Day.
Finally passed one of my favorite spring holiday – International Women’s Day.
I hope each women was happy and surprised this day. And I wish all women around the world to be happy and beautiful, every single day, not just for some special occasions.
I have a lot of friends around the world and yesterday, when I received congratulations from them, I was surprised that each country accept this celebration in own way.
So, i decided to check history of International Women’s Day. Just to understand why we have a different celebrations.
The earliest Women’s Day observance was held on February 28, 1909, in New York; it was organized by the Socialist Party of America in remembrance of the 1908 strike of the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union.
On this day, more than 15 000 women marched through the city demanding the reduction of the working day and equal c male wage conditions. In addition, it was demanded women’s suffrage.
Communist leader Clara Zetkin in 1910, at the Second International Socialist Women’s Conference, held in Copenhagen on 27 August as part of the Eighth Congress of the Second International, proposed the establishment of the International Women’s Day. It was meant, that this day women will hold rallies and marches, attracting the public to his problems.
In 1914 International Women’s Day was held on March 8, possibly because that day was a Sunday, and now it is always held on March 8 in all countries.
In the West, International Women’s Day was first observed as a popular event after 1977 when the United Nations General Assembly invited member states to proclaim March 8 as the UN Day for women’s rights and world peace.
Look at the postcards and photographs, popular in those days.
From that point International Women’s Day became common celebration around the world. And time to time each country adopted and modified it in his own way.
For example, in the USSR festival completely lost political color and bind to the fight against discrimination of women, becoming a “day of all women”. But in France, they still keep this day, like a day of women’s rights.
And yesterday, I decided to check how women around the world celebrate International Women’s Day in 2016.
I asked all of them the same question: “Tell me please, how are usually girls in your country celebrate Women’s day?” And that is a answers what I received:
Taiwan: “Actually women’s day in Taiwan we don’t celebrate it , even the men don’t bring the flowers. We just say blessing for women today, then everything just is like usually day.”
Turkey: “Celebrating the day here is also more or less same as every country flowers, flowers, flowers. Effort into make the ladies more special etc.”
Serbia: “Usually we celebrate with our men. Dinner or something romantic.”
Croatia: “Nothing special. Girls usually go out to dinner with their men or with girlfriends. Usually they got flowers as a present and that’s it.”
France: “Basically we don’t celebrate it. For us International Women’s Day is still a day when women have a chance underline their problems.”
Italy: “We celebrate in different ways. Somebody go to eat pizza, somebody go to dance or drink in the pub with music. Or somebody go in the clubs where you can eat and drink and then look, male striptease shows. And a usually men this day stay at home with a kids.”
Russia: “For us is a big event. We love this day so much. In International Women’s Day man present us the flowers, gifts, organize surprises. And all day long we receive congratulations from everybody around. 8 of March is very beautiful and lovely day in Russia. We are not so lucky with the weather in this day, because are usually is still cold, but we are lucky for the way to celebrate it.”
And how did you celebrate this day in your country?
